What is painted

The armor in Ephesians 6

Paul closes his letter to the Ephesians with a call to “be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might” and to put on the whole armor of God. He is clear that the fight is not against flesh and blood. Then he goes piece by piece: loins girt about with truth, the breastplate of righteousness, feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.

Above all, he says, take the shield of faith, “wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked” (verse 16). Then the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. He ends not with a battle cry but with prayer, asking the readers to pray always.

The olive branch in the painting is a quiet addition. The armor is not for conquest; it is worn by people who carry a gospel of peace.
