Psalms and Scripture

Watercolor Bible verse prints from the Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah and more: Be still and know, Psalm 121, Proverbs 3:5, Jeremiah 29:11, all in King James.

This is the largest collection in the shop, and the most personal. Each print starts from a single verse that people copy onto index cards, text to friends or learn by heart, and then gives it a place and a light. Many come from the Psalms: a calm lake at sunrise for “Be still, and know that I am God”, a hiker facing blue mountain ranges for Psalm 121, a tree beside a stream for Psalm 1, an oil lamp on a rocky path for Psalm 119, a shepherd beneath the Milky Way for Psalm 19, and young King David with his harp for the last line of the last psalm.

Others come from the prophets and the wisdom books. For Isaiah 43:2 Jesus steps from stone to stone across fast water and walks a mountain path for Isaiah 41:10. A small boat waits on a still lake for “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace”, and a young tree grows by a winding road for Jeremiah 29:11. Proverbs gives an open Bible under an olive tree, the woman of strength carrying her water jar, and a hand offering bread to the poor. The Law is here too, with Moses at the burning bush and on the mountain with the tablets, and Michelangelo's Creation of Adam, reimagined in watercolor.

Because the verses are so varied, this is the collection to browse by occasion. A family gathered by the fire or standing with Jesus at a lit doorway suits a housewarming. Two rings on dried flowers and hands bound by a threefold cord suit a wedding. Footprints on a beach at sunset often go to someone who is grieving, and a young woman among wildflowers to a daughter who needs to hear Psalm 139.
