What is painted

Who is “her” in Psalm 46?

Read in context, “her” is a city. The verse before says, “There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.” Psalm 46, headed as a song for the sons of Korah, describes the earth shaking, the mountains carried into the sea and nations raging, and in the middle of all that noise, one city that stands because God lives inside it. The full verse ends, “God shall help her, and that right early.”
