About this print
Jesus Walking at Dawn
The wind has dropped, the mist is lifting, and Jesus walks toward you over the water as if it were solid ground.
What is painted
Jesus stands on the open surface of a wide lake, barefoot, with small rings spreading where his feet meet the water. He wears a long white tunic tied with a cord and a sheer, sand-colored cloak that lifts slightly at the hem. His gaze is turned a little to one side, calm and attentive.
Behind him, mist hangs over the water and low hills fade into a pale golden haze. The sun is hidden in bright cloud above his shoulder, and his reflection stretches down toward the bottom of the image in soft broken strokes. The painting fills the whole sheet in a muted impressionist oil style of ivory, gold and gray-blue. No text is printed on it.
Matthew 14: be not afraid
After feeding the five thousand, Jesus sent his disciples ahead by boat and went up a mountain alone to pray (Matthew 14:22-23). Through the night the boat was tossed by waves and a contrary wind. In the fourth watch, between three and six in the morning, he came to them walking on the sea.
The disciples thought they were seeing a spirit and cried out. Jesus told them, “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid” (Matthew 14:27). Peter asked to come to him and stepped out, but when he saw the wind he began to sink and called, “Lord, save me.” Jesus caught him by the hand. When they climbed into the boat the wind ceased, and those aboard worshipped him. This painting imagines the stillness of daybreak after that night.
For anxious seasons and calm rooms
The soft palette keeps it peaceful enough for a bedroom, a bathroom or a meditation space, and it reads well across a room in larger sizes. It is a thoughtful gift for someone stepping out in faith, anyone living with anxiety, or a family that loves the lake.
For a coastal or lake house, the gray-blue water and ivory sky blend easily with linen, driftwood and white walls. It also makes a quiet companion to a calming-of-the-storm print, one picture for the night of fear and one for the morning after.
Prints are giclée on heavyweight archival matte paper, made to order in the United States, with free US shipping. They are sold unframed, from 5x7 to 24x36 inches, in metric and A sizes as well, or as a digital file.
