About this print
Touching His Garment
No faces, no crowd, only a hand stretched out in faith and the fringe of a cloak brushing past.
What is painted
The view is low and close, at the level of the road. From the left, a figure wrapped in green and cream cloth, bent toward the ground, reaches out an arm. Fingers close gently around the tassels hanging from the hem of a long cream mantle. On the right, a sandaled foot steps forward on the dusty path, and the folds of the cloak sway with the motion.
Beyond them, olive shrubs and pale boulders lead to a mountain where the sun sits low in an amber sky. The texture is thick and woven, in a bold impressionist oil painting style that runs to every edge of the print. Nobody's face is shown, and there is no text.
Mark 5: twelve years, and one touch
Mark 5:25-34 tells of a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years. She had spent everything she had on physicians and only grown worse. Hearing about Jesus, she came up behind him in the press of the crowd, for she said, “If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.”
The moment she touched his garment, the bleeding stopped. Jesus felt that power had gone out of him and asked who had touched his clothes. Trembling, she came forward and told him the whole truth. He answered, “Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.” Matthew 9:20 and Luke 8:44 add that it was the hem, the fringe, of his garment that she touched.
A gift for someone who is waiting for healing
This is a fitting present for a friend facing a long illness, a nurse, a doctor, a chaplain or a hospital prayer room. It also suits a quiet bedroom corner for anyone who has prayed for years and keeps reaching out anyway.
Because the faces are left out, the viewer can step into the scene and imagine their own hand on that fringe. It works beside a Bible verse card on a nightstand, or in larger formats on the wall of a healing ministry or care team room.
It is produced on demand in the US as a giclée on thick archival matte paper, and shipping inside the United States is free. The print comes without a frame, in sizes from 5x7 to 24x36 inches as well as metric and A formats. A digital version is available too.
