Twelve at the Table, Last Supper Christian Wall Art

What is painted

Instead of the long straight table of the famous Renaissance paintings, this Last Supper gathers everyone in a circle. Jesus and the twelve apostles sit on blocks of stone around a round wooden table, set with loaves and simple cups. Some lean in to listen, some turn to one another; the circle means no one sits at the end.

It is painted in watercolor, in beige and warm browns with soft washes of color in the robes. The light is gentle and even, which gives the scene a calm, almost domestic feel. There is no text on this print.

The meal the Church still shares

All four Gospels tell of the last meal Jesus ate with his disciples before his arrest, and Matthew, Mark and Luke describe how he took bread, blessed it and broke it, then took the cup and gave thanks. Paul passes on the same account in 1 Corinthians 11, saying he received it from the Lord: “as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.”

That same evening Jesus also said that one of the twelve would betray him, and the disciples began to ask, one after another, “Is it I?” The round table in this painting lets you imagine that moment too, each face turned toward the others.
